Sable Island, A Photo Essay by Damian Lidgard

Damian Lidgard is a zoologist and wildlife photographer who has been visiting Sable Island yearly since 1997. His photography has won awards, been featured in several publications, including the French magazine Thalassa, and has been exhibited at a number of art galleries. The presentation and discussion will look at the history of the cemetery, some of the prominent citizens buried there, and the evolution of headstones and carvings at the cemetery.Peter is a member of the Museum Commission and Vice-chair of the Bridgewater Heritage Advisory Committee, archivist/historian at St. Paul's Church Bridgewater, member of the Heritage Trust of Nova Scotia and is published in The Griffin.

Blair Beed has been leading bus tours through Halifax with a focus on the Titanic for 38 years. His book, Titanic Victims in Halifax Graveyards addresses what happened after the ship sank, what happened to the victims floating in the ocean, and how Halifax responded.

John Boileau's interest in Canadian history has been instrumental in his writing career which began after his retirement from the Canadian army in 1999. During his 37-year career in the forces he served in Canada, Germany, the United States, Cyprus and the United Kingdom. He was Consulting Editor for A Century of Service: Canada's Armed Forces From the Boer War to East Timor, by Jim Lotz, published in 2000. His articles can be found in The Beaver, Legion Magazine, Saltscapes, the Halifax Sunday Herald and the Saint John Telegraph-Journal. He and his wife, Miriam, live on the shores of St Margaret's Bay, NS.

 

Royal Memorabelia Show and Tell

In honour of Queen Elizabeth's Diamond Jubilee, we are inviting the public to show off their 'Royal Family Memorabilia' at the museum on  April 21 and April 22, from 1-5pm.  Items should be brought to the Museum on April 20 after 1pm.  We will have tables set up for you to lay out your treasures, and they will be monitored at all times throughout the weekend. As space is limited, please contact the Museum at 543-4033  or This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
