Architecture:

  • Gable roofed Greek Revival house with projecting two-story gable at side and ell at the rear
  • Upper ends have “V” joint planked wood siding, separated from rest of shingled wall surface by intermediate dentilled belt courses
  • Similar belt course separates first and second stories.
  • Angled veranda entrance contains small pediment
  • Veranda still has two turned posts and two ornamental brackets, though part of veranda has been enclosed and the post replaced

 

History:

  • Anthony Rhuland purchased lot from John Slocumb in 1867 for $58; assessment records show Rhuland built the house in 1879, and it appears on the 1883 Church map
  • Rhuland was a horse educator
  • Thomas Keefler owned the house from 1892-1896; DesBrisay’s History of Lunenburg County mentions him having a store on the corner of King Street and Victoria Road
