Address: 47 Elm St.

Heritage Status: None
Built: 1887-1904
Builder/Architect: Possibly Joseph R. Wyman
Style: Rambling

Architecture:

  • This somewhat rambling old house seems very busy with its various stairways, doorways and windows. Note also the gabled roof and the slightly pointed window hoods over the gable end windows closest to the street.

History:

  • This house was probably built for Joseph R. Wyman, shortly after he purchased the property from Christian Ernst in 1887. Wyman was a shipmaster and a contractor. James A. McLean, a barrister, also owned the property. McLean bought and sold numerous properties in town, so it is unlikely he lived there himself.
