NOTICE - SPECIAL PURPOSE TAX PDF Print E-mail

The upcoming interim tax bill for residents of the Town of Bridgewater will include, for the first time, a special purpose tax for the Lunenburg County Multi-Purpose Centre.  The amount on the interim bill is 50% of the annual amount for 2011-12.  The other 50% will be on the final tax bill.

On February 28, 2011, Town Council for the Town of Bridgewater approved this special purpose tax of $.08 per $100 of assessment on residential and commercial property in the Town of Bridgewater for a period not to exceed 20 years.   The funds collected will be placed in a Special Reserve Fund for the purpose of paying the debt charges on the Town's share of the borrowing required to construct the Lunenburg County Multi-Purpose Centre.

The use of a special purpose tax allows Council to place an end date on the tax and provides assurance to the taxpayer that the tax will only be used for the intended purpose.
