Parks, Recreation, and Culture
The Parks, Recreation and Culture Commission establishes and reviews policies which govern the direction of the Parks, Recreation & Culture Department. The implementation of the policy is delegated to the Parks, Recreation and Culture Director through the Town’s administration, of which all staff are a part.
The Commission’s responsibilities are for:
- Promoting recreation among residents.
- Consulting, advising and recommending to Council matters affecting the development and maintenance of recreational facilities.
- Being consulted whenever it is proposed to sell or lease municipal land that is held for park purposes or for other public recreation purposes, and to be consulted when it is proposed to acquire land for public recreation purposes.
- Provide input into agreements entered into by the Town for the enhancement of recreation opportunities.
The Commission itself operates on a Mission Statement that recognizes that the provision of parks, recreation and cultural services is essential to the health and well-being of our community. It is the department’s goal to ensure that all people living, working, and visiting in our community are provided with open space, parks, leisure services, leadership and facilities to enhance their quality of life.
Parks, Recreation & Culture
The Parks, Recreation and Culture Department are located on the third floor of the Town Hall. The Department consists of eight full time and four seasonal staff. Located in the office is the Director of Parks, Recreation & Culture, the Program Coordinator and the Secretary.
