The Parks, Recreation and Culture Commission establishes and reviews policies which govern the direction of the Parks, Recreation & Culture Department. The implementation of the policy is delegated to the Parks, Recreation and Culture Director through the Town’s administration, of which all staff are a part.

Programs and Special Events

The department offers a well-rounded collection of programs for the citizens of Bridgewater. Programs are developed based on needs that have been identified by the public, or specific issues that have become relevant in the community.

Community Development

The Parks, Recreation and Culture Commission provides community development services to more than 130 groups in the community. This type of service could include providing relevant information, networking with other like agencies, workshops, training programs and equipment loaned, to name a few.

The Parks, Recreation and Culture Commission operates with a budget of approximately $680,000, of which approximately 62% of that budget generates funds through user fees and other sources outside of tax dollars.

New Initiatives

The department is receiving ongoing requests for year-round aquatic facilities in the community that will undoubtedly need to be addressed in the future.

Hodge Podge Community Garden

Text

Community gardens have come to Bridgewater! They are located at the corner of Aberdeen & Elm, which is the location of the old Visitors Information Centre. The gardens are a joint project between the Town of Bridgewater and community members.

Hodge Podge Gardens is a place for citizens to have their own garden in a public space. It is a place to grow food and flowers, learn skills, meet new friends, exercise, get fresh air, and enjoy a natural space.

There are 20 raised beds at the garden, with some room to expand in the future. All 20 beds are now in use, and have been assigned to individuals, families and community groups. If you would like to garden here in the future, please contact us.

This garden has become a reality due to the generous support of citizen volunteers, the Town, and local businesses. Thank-you!
