Address: 177 King Street |
Heritage Status: Recognized |
Built: 1895 |
Builder/Architect: Likely George Naugler |
Style: Bracketed, Maritime Vernacular |
Architecture:
- Unique house has truncated gable (low grambrel) roof
- Intact except for bottom floor windows
- Interesting turned posts and brackets on front veranda
- Returning eaves noticeable in corners
|
History:
- Lot originally owned by George Naugler, a shipwright
- Sold to Arthur Munroe in 1895 for $650
- Deed mentions buildings, but owner as of 1985 was informed it had been built by Munroe, and $650 seems relatively little to pay for a house at that point in time
- Monroe was a fish and supply merchant, also listed in a census as a “clerk”
