877 lahave

Address: 877 LaHave St.

Heritage Status: None
Built: c.1860 Builder/Architect: David Kaulback
Style:

Architecture:

  • This house once featured returned eaves and clapboard but has recently been sided. It still retains its wide, molded corner boards. Also, in general proportion and fenestration, the house retains characteristics which reflect its considerable age. However, the introduction of a wide shed dormer in the roof and an enclosed entrance with a horizontally oriented window in the side conspires to substantially alter its character.

History:

  • David Kaulback married Joshua Cook's sister and built this house on a portion of the Cook property. It was passed on to his son, Joshua, who died in 1950. John Cook looked after Mr. Kaulback before his death and was the beneficiary of Mr. Kaulback's will.
