The Building and Fire Inspection Services operate out of the Community Development Department on the first floor of the Town Hall. Their main functions include receiving and processing applications for building permits, carrying out building inspections, performing routine fire inspections, and the administration of any dangerous and unsightly premises concerns.
The Town employs one fire inspector, who is appointed to act under the Fire Safety Act, the Dangerous and Unsightly Premises Section of the Municipal Government Act, and the Minimum Building Standards Bylaw. The Town also has an agreement with the Municipality of the District of Lunenburg for inspection services. Two inspectors from the Municipality conduct building and fire inspections within Bridgewater as part of this agreement.
