The goal of our community's approach to Recreation is to support a healthy, active, inclusive quality of life for residents of all ages, incomes, and abilities. This involves working to ensure all people living, working, or visiting our community have access to open space, parks, leisure and active living opportunities and facilities to enhance their quality of life.
Our Recreation team also provides administrative and strategic support for the Brookside Cemetery, managers Grants to Community Organizations and ProKids programs, and runs the Hodge Podge Community Garden.
Special events that involve Recreation include the annual Volunteer Recognition Ceremony and support for events and festivals for the community Canada Day on the LaHave; Christmas on the LaHave, Bikes for Kids, Heartland Tour, Canadian Tire Jumpstart Day, Fresh Air Films, and South Shore Kids Triathlon, just to name a few!
Recreation also coordinates the booking of Town-owned parks for special events (picnics, weddings, gatherings), field usage as well as private swim lessons and rentals at the outdoor pool.
Bridgewater Recreation distributes a Recreation Guide in the Fall (just prior to Labour Day); Winter (before Christmas ); Spring (end of March) and Summer (end of May). The most current copy of the guide can always be found here -- check out the links in the panel on the right!
We pride ourselves on offering a wide variety of programs for all ages, interests and abilities, including: first aid & CPR/AED, babysitting, stay safe home alone, fitness, outdoor activities, music, crafts, gardening, sports, and public interest seminars.
Recreation also administers the PROKids Program which supports youth who are ecomically disadvantaged or youth who have been identified as requiring positive support services to participate in recreation and leisure opportunities.
