Parks, Recreation and Culture
The Department is located at 60 Pleasant Street on the third floor of the Town Office.
Staff include the Program Coordinator, and Administrative Assistant. The staff of the DesBrisay Museum, Parks, Brookside Cemetery and a number of seasonal employees are also a part of the Department and work from various facilities throughout the Town. The Department also manages the staff of the Wile Carding Mill Museum through an agreement with the Province of Nova Scotia.
The Department recognizes the provisions of parks, playgrounds, open space, leisure facilities, as well as recreation and cultural services is essential to the health and well-being of our community. It is the Department's goal to ensure that all people living, working and visiting in our community are provided with open space, parks, leisure services, leadership, and facilities to enhance their quality of life.
Community Development services and projects the Department is involved in include: festivals for the community (Canada Day on the LaHave; Christmas on the LaHave, Music Along the Riverbank), Hodge Podge Community Garden, Bikes for Kids, Heartland Tour, Canadian Tire Jumpstart Day, Fresh Air Films, South Shore Kids Triathlon, just to name a few!
PROGRAMS AND SPECIAL EVENTS
The department distributes a Recreation Guide with the flyers in the Fall (just prior to Labour Day); Winter (before Christmas ); Spring (end of March) and Summer (end of May). The most current copy of the guide can always be found here and on the main news page of the Town of Bridgewater website.
We pride ourselves in offering a wide variety of programs for all ages, interests and abilities, including: first aid & CPR/AED, fitness classes, music, art, dance, sports, and...do-it-yourself, public interest seminars.
