- The original structure of this house had many different features than what is pictured above. These included a gable roof, returned eaves, a small “Scottish” dormer, sidelights and a transom window around the door, as well as wide corner boards with moulded panels. Since its build, this house has undergone renovations which have resulted in the loss of the dormer, re-siding, and window and door alterations.
History:
- James E. Dauphinee purchased this lot for $70 in 1856, and according to Assessment records, built the house in 1880. The A.F. Church Map of 1883 also identifies this house as “J. Dauphinee”, confirming the build date of circa 1880. Following Dauphinee’s ownership from 1856 to 1906, his son William Dauphinee owned the property from 1906 to 1936, and his other son, James A. Dauphinee owned it from 1936 to 1952. The house has been owned since 2006 by Patrick Hirtle, a Town Councillor in Bridgewater from 2008 to 2012.
