Media Release

Date July 22, 2020

Yesterday afternoon, at approximately 1 p.m., BPS and RCMP officers were alerted of a possible sighting of Tobias Doucette in the LaHave River.  Police attempted to apprehend him as he fled on foot into the woods off of Highway 331 in Conquerall Bank, NS.  An RCMP Police dog was injured during that attempted arrest.  Doucette was not taken into police custody.  Police have been actively searching for Doucette since that time.  RCMP Critical Incident Command has taken over the search lead due to the last incident and last known location occurring in the Conquerall Bank area of Lunenburg County.

On July 20, 2020, at approximately 11 p.m., Bridgewater Police Service officers responded to third party Domestic Violence complaint at the Bridgewater Hotel, High Street, Bridgewater.  Once inside, Tobias Doucette attacked police with an edged weapon striking Sgt. Matthew Bennett in the neck.  Doucette immediately fled the area on foot.  Sgt. Bennett, a 13-year member with Bridgewater Police Service, underwent successful surgery yesterday in the Capital Health Region.  He is currently recovering in hospital.  BPS and RCMP continue to search for Doucette.  Anyone that witnesses suspicious persons or activities on properties are asked to avoid contact and immediately call police.
