1 April 2010 - RESIDENTIAL BACKFLOW PREVENTION DEVICES
As of 1 April 2010, the Public Service Commission of Bridgewater will require dual check valve, in conjunction with thermal expansion tanks, as a minimum acceptable premise isolation backflow prevention device on all residential dwellings.
All backflow prevention devices must be selected and installed in accordance with the latest revision of CSA Standard B64.10-07 for the selection and installation and testing of backflow preventers (click here to download a list of CSA Approved Dual Check Valve Assemblies).
It should be noted this is the first of a Multiphase Backflow Prevention Program being implemented by the Public Service Commission of Bridgewater of Bridgewater.
The Public Service Commission of Bridgewater wants to bring this information to your attention to avoid any inconvenience.
If you have any questions concerning current or future phases of the Backflow Prevention Program, please contact Larry Hood, Civil Engineering Technologist at 902-541-4370.
01 June 2006 - WATER LATERAL INSTALLATION
As of 01 June 2006 the Public Service Commission of Bridgewater will no longer permit the use of couplings within the run of pipe from the curb stop to the main shut off within the dwelling on new installations, unless the length exceeds 20 meters. Previously adapter fittings were used by contractors to make a transition from ¾” diameter copper pipe to 1” diameter poly pipe near the existing curb stop. Therefore if a contractor encounters a ¾” diameter copper lateral at the curb stop, then ¾” copper pipe shall be continued into the dwelling.
Exceptions:
- If unapproved pipe is located at the curb stop (¾” poly, 5/8” poly, etc.) then AWWA approved couplings would be permitted to make a transition to either ¾” diameter copper pipe or 1” diameter poly pipe.
- Repairs to existing water laterals (private) would still be permitted with AWWA approved fittings
The Public Service Commission of Bridgewater wants to bring this information to your attention to avoid any inconvenience, we will assist contractors in determining lateral pipe types for pricing purposes where possible.
If you have any questions, please contact Graham Hopkins, Facilities and Inspections Manager at 902-541-4370.
