Precautionary measures for taxi & community transportation operations.
Keep yourself and your passengers protected
To keep yourself and passengers protected, you can take the following steps:
• Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Use an alcohol- based hand sanitizer if soap and water are not available.
• Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth with unwashed hands.
• Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
• Ask passengers to sit in the back to create physical distance.
• Avoid handling money, or chits if possible.
• Have tissues and hand sanitizer available for your passengers if possible.
• Ensure air system is not set to recirculate.
• Dispose of all waste in a small waste bag, tie it and dispose of it in regular garbage
Disinfect your vehicle regularly
• Plan to clean and disinfect your vehicle as often as possible--especially after you drop off passengers who appear to be sick and after every medical passenger. Pay close attention to surfaces that are touched often by passengers.
• Use a disinfectant that is pre-approved by the Health Canada for use against novel coronavirus (COVID-19). This information can be found at the link below.
• Wash hands thoroughly after cleaning vehicle.
Special precautions for drivers transporting patients to health care facilities
Transporting known or suspected COVID-19 patients in enclosed vehicles would be considered to be at a higher risk for exposure. If you are transporting medical customers, take the following precautions:
• Be sure to have alcohol-based hand sanitizer containing at least 60 percent alcohol content and use it often.
• Confirm the passenger has been in contact with 811 and their arrival is expected.
• Ensure the patron is wearing the mask provided by the Nova Scotia Health Authority
• Seat the passenger as far as possible from the driver. If a van is available this would be preferred.
• After transport ensure your vehicle is cleaned and disinfected prior to transporting other patrons.
