Town Council is considering an amendment to the Land-Use By-law (LUB) to remove surface parking lots from the list of uses permitted on the west side of King Street within the Historic Downtown Commercial (C1) Zone. If the amendments are approved by Council, no new surface level parking lots could be developed on King Street within the C1 Zone. This would not affect the rest of the C1 Zone, existing parking lots, street parking, nor would it prohibit parking structures (with a requirement for ground floor commercial). The intention of the amendments is to reduce negative effects of surface parking on a downtown streetscape.
