Application Overview - Completed
This process is to amend the flood risk policy and regulations of the Municipal Planning Strategy and Land Use Bylaw. The objective is to protect people from flooding along the LaHave River, while encouraging downtown development.
In September 2023 Stantec was hired to complete a policy review process which provided recommendations for new and updated policies to protect properties along the LaHave River from flooding, while still encouraging development downtown. In October 2023 Dr. Tim Webster was hired to review existing flood scenarios of the NSCC flood risk study (2013) and recommend a flood scenario to use in policy.
This originated from development agreement applications for propsed development on proeprties adjacent to the LaHave River. They were unable to meet the existing policy regarding flood risk and it was determined that it may be too restrictive.
